Harlan's first teeth!

Harlan has been teething for a while now. It actually did not take that long for these teeth to come through. The first one came through and was followed by the second tooth within 3 days. He is now working on the top teeth. But it seems he teethes for a few days and then he gets a break and then a few days later he starts the drooling and chewing on everything in sight again.

He is such a cutie pie!

So far he has done OK with teh teething. He likes to chew on my finger. I wrap it up in a cold wet washcloth first so that his sharp little teeth don't hurt me. Tylenol seems to take the edge off the pain as well. He has actually tolerated teething fairly well.

Harlan's 1st Haircut

Yup at the ripe old age of 15 and 1/2 weeks he needed a haircut! No not because it was too long or getting into his eyes. This was purely a cosmetic haircut. See Harlan was born with a full head of hair. He was my first baby ever to have ANY hair. The older 3 kids were bald until well over a year old. I was thrilled to FINALLY have a baby with hair. And then.... it all started to fall out. Not only did he rub some of it out on the back of his head but the top of it fell out too. But it did not fall out evenly. It fell out in stripes on top leaving a Mohawk. And he had the "newborn bald spot" on the back of his head from always being placed on his back to sleep, rubbing his head on the car seat, swing etc. So what was left was a "comb over" on top and a "ring" above his collar. It looked horrible! Here are a few pictures:

The comb over The ring above his collar and "bald spot"

The Mohawk in the front

So I cut it! He did just fine with the clippers. He did not even cry and that way I wouldn't cut him if he moved the way I might with scissors. The clippers has a guard that prevents cutting the skin. The kids took pictures of his haircut!

The small amount of hair that I cut off. I kept a lock of it for the baby book!
Doesn't this look better?!?!?!

He is the cutest baby ever with his new hairdo!

Harlan = growing up so fast!

So I took Harlan to an appointment today and had him weighed and measured. He weighs 12lbs 2 oz and is 24 1/8 inch long! He is a long and skinny little guy! We have been watching his weight to make sure he is gaining properly after all his problem initially with breastfeeding because of his tongue tie issue. But I am happy to report that he is doing great!!!!

He is currently 3mos and a few weeks old/ He weighed 8lbs 14 oz at birth so he has gained 3lbs 4oz in 15 weeks. He was 21 1/2 inches tall when he was born so he has grown 2 3/4 inches in 15 weeks!!!!

And he just cut his 2nd tooth. He has both bottom front teeth now! What a cutie pie with his new teeth! I will try to get pictures posted soon of his little pearly whites!!!!

Harlan feeding issues

Harlan came through the tongue tie surgery with flying colors. They did the surgery 1 dy shy of he being 1 month old on November 6th. They did not use an IV or breathing tube. They just sedated him for the procedure and it was done within 10 minutes. Hrlan did not seem to be in any pain during his recoevery period but it did take about 7-10 days for him to fully heal and get use to using his tongue effectively. He still has even today at 3months old a bit of a heart shaped tongue from where the frendulum attaches to his tongue although his tongue is now freed.

It took us a while to get off the bottle and pump and back onto the breast. We did a "nurse-in" during a long weekend and we did nothing but nurse and sleep and cuddle. By the end of our nurse in my breast milk supply was well established and he was brestfeeding very well. We did use nipple shield for week or so but he quickly weaned off that to just nurse on my breast.

At his 2 month well baby check up we noticed he was not gaining well. He was maintaining his weight but not gaining. So the Peditrician and I decided that we should add 4-6 oz of formula every day until my milk supply increased and he started to gain. We did that for 2 weeks and he gained 13 oz. Perfect!

Our next appointment is in February for his 4 month check-up. Hopefully he will be gaining enough and we can discontinue the formula.
